Discussing Art
at the Opening
With Sophia

Acrylic on Board
18" w x 22 h"

Private Collection

At the opening,  I am walking through the gallery discussing art with Sophia.
She stops, focuses on a painting and asks, ”What does this mean?”.
I start to speak but it’s a rhetorical question.
She tells me; “This piece represents all of the paintings ever created”, then takes a sip of wine.
Sophia and I are looking into the painting.
I can hear her voice in my head as she has turns inward.
I am drawn into her thoughts.
Paintings fly at me like signs on a freeway.
I can see each one with unusual clarity.
All of the works of every artist who has made real their dreams.
Ever.
She is telling me each image.
I follow the paint and hear the canvas dance with the color.
Sophia sings to me each image.
“What’s left in, what’s left out, what we see and what we  don’t see, is what it’s all about.”
I know. Have I always known?
I think no, and then again yes.
Her song trails off; ”And in the end, all there is, is pure light.”
With a smile she turns to me and asks,” Would you be so kind as to get her another glass of wine?”
